As the city's number one shopping destination, we are passionate about serving the local community and playing a key part in it - which is why corporate social responsibility is at the heart of everything we do.
Community grants will be available for local charities to increase funding for challenges specific to our local communities. These unrestricted grants of up to £3,000 are designed to support not-for-profit organisations with daily activities. Funding opportunities will be transparent, with a shortlist created by the Charities Aid Foundation, and reviewed by community grants panels built from members local to each of our places. This will provide inside perspectives of what funding will make the greatest impact in each area, empowering the local community to make future-forward decisions.
We’ll be offering four funding rounds each year.
In the lead up to the festive season, Buchanan Galleries has provided financial support and resources to five local charities who address pressing social issues, promote community development and improve the lives of residents in Glasgow.
The charities set to benefit from Buchanan Galleries include; The No.1 Befriending Agency (a social enterprise that combats loneliness), Bluevale Community Club (a community sports initiative), Glasgow Tandem Club (a charity supporting visually impaired cyclists), Greater Govanhill CIC (an initiative serving one of Glasgow's most socially disadvantaged neighbourhoods) and SambaYaBamba (an organisation dedicated to spreading the joy of Brazilian street music).
Each charity serves a unique and vital role within the local community. The initiative is funded by Buchanan Galleries’ owner, Landsec, via its social impact programme, Landsec Futures, a £20m fund which aims to bring more value to the communities where Landsec invests.
Buchanan Galleries is a proud partner of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, formerly known as Yorkhill Children's Charity. This fantastic charity raises money to ensure that young patients treated at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow receive the best possible care.
Following the move of the hospital in 2015, Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity now continues the care and legacy of Yorkhill Children's Charity. The charity supports the 160,000 babies, children and young people from across Scotland who are treated at the hospital each year, and we are sure our customers will join us in supporting the charity's wonderful work.
The children’s hospital in Glasgow is the busiest in Scotland, with more than 500 children being cared for at the hospital every day. With 1 in 4 children from Glasgow needing treatment at the hospital each year, many of our shoppers have first-hand experience of the vital work that happens at the hospital and the difference Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity makes to the lives of seriously ill children and their families.
Kirsten Watson, Chief Executive at Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity said:
"We are hugely grateful to our friends at Buchanan Galleries for their unwavering support of our hospital community in Glasgow.
“We rely entirely on donations and fundraising to allow us to continue supporting families in hospital during their darkest days with our vital projects and support services, including our Play Programme, Bereavement Service and Emergency Family Support. We’d like to share our heartfelt thanks to staff and customers of Buchanan Galleries who have generously supported us. We are very grateful for their efforts, which we can proudly say helps to make a lasting difference to the lives of our young patients, their families and the NHS staff caring for them in hospital.”
Since 2015, thanks to the generosity of our shoppers we have raised more than £245,000 to help fund life changing projects and services, such as state of the art of the medical equipment and support services for parents and carers with a seriously ill child in hospital. We give our warmest thanks to customers and staff for your ongoing support, and for helping make a real difference for the young patients and their families.
Thanks, especially, for your support through the Billy Connolly Lego figurine activation and the Grand Prize Draw Mini Competition.
